Can my data be recovered after a hard drive crash?

Can you answer Q.T.? Reuben’s question about Data Recovery?:

My hard drive is toast. I’ve been told that the data is lost. If I know that the police can recover data from a crashed drive for evidence, but can it be done for an individual who’s only crime was not backing up files especially the purchased music files. Thankfully I burned all my photographs to CD about a week earlier. Boy, I’m an idiot for not burning my music onto CDs when I had the chance.

Data Recovery Feedback: The only way i can think of, is a System Restore, but you would’ve had to create a restore point. Thats the only way, that is if you can get that far. .Other than that, sorry bro.

Data Recovery Feedback: There are commercial services. A yahoo search revealed over 700,000 hits. You are correct that police can recover data, even a disc that has been formatted unless you use something like Norton with its special erase that specifically writes to every location on the disc.

Data Recovery Feedback: Try the followig will restore your original config
Use xp disk as you would to do a normal install at the instalation screen pick repair windows leave file system as it is this will re install windows but leave your files as they are on the computer
all that will not be available are any updates that you installed due to your windows being back to its original install DONOT pick the change file system or your drive will be auto formatted that is a clean install that destoys all on the hard drive you will still need your serial number to reinstall

Data Recovery Feedback: Aside from the commercial recovery companies mentioned by another post, which tend to cost hundreds of dollars, if your drive spins up, it may be possible to use a free linux boot CD along with an external drive to recover your files. I’ve done it for a client recently using a MEPIS version of linux ( ). This link will tell you how: .

Data Recovery Feedback: Very simple. There are IT companies and IT professionals/specialists trained in the recovery of lost data. Engage them, negotiate the fee and get the job done.
