100% Free Full Disk Encryption (Freeware/Open-Source)?

Can you answer Robbie? [the random ho]’s question about Data Recovery?:

I am trying to find a Freeware or Open-Source Full Disk Encryption that requires authorization upon boot-up. Can anyone help me? Thank You.

Also, in addition to FDE, is there any other security measure you would perfer if it were your own computer?
By FDE, I mean inclusive of OS as well. Not just a partition or individual file/folder.

    Freeware / Open-Source

This is by far, the most secure, open source widely used system for encryption of both partitions and system operating system’s drive/partitions. With Truecrypt you can make container files, encrypt any partition, or the whole system drive or partition, to totally secure your whole system and data. Plus it has great backup and restore features on the cd you create (which is also secure as your data)

Data Recovery Feedback: I also think TrueCrypt is the way to go–even though it technically doesn’t count as Full Disk Encryption. Every free or open-source encryption is limited to volume. They don’t encrypt the boot sector. For most people, the volume encryption is completely fine. Wikipedia has a great chart of various disk encryption solutions:

Even more important than disk encryption, make sure you’re running anti-virus, software firewall and pick good passwords.
