How do I recover data from a hard drive that is not partitioned?

Can you answer Tuck Tuckerton’s question about Data Recovery?:

Im trying to recover data of my PS3 HD I have it in an enclosure.
Most data recovery software i’ve found does not not search physical drives, and there is no logical drive for it. I don’t want to format it before i try to recover because i heard it makes it harder to recover.

Data Recovery Feedback: You will need to download a program such as Swissknife (Download from below). This is a free download and can format your massive external hard drive in the FAT32 file system. This is needed because the windows OS will not handle a fat32 drive bigger than 32 gig.
