Is it possible to recover data after re-installing windows xp on a gateway?

Can you answer Elizabethh B’s question about Data Recovery?:

I lost a whole lot of pictures after I had to re-install my version of Windows XP. My computer crashed after I tried to play a game, don’t know what happen. Anyhow, if any of you know if it is possible to recover data loss after something like that, I’d appreciate it. Is it possible or is it not?

Data Recovery Feedback: Sorry, but no.

For the next time (and computers do break), anything important that you create should be saved on your computer and on some medium external to your computer (cd, dvd, flash or external hard drive). This also includes software you buy online and download, as well as the license keys.
